Social Media Influencers Need Business Insurance Too

Posted on

Whether you are a blogger or a vlogger, working as a social media influencer is a great way to earn a living while doing something you love. However, for anyone who pursues this endeavor professionally, it is important to treat it as a business. As such, it is important to protect yourself with business insurance.

Liability Insurance

Bloggers and vloggers often give their viewers advice and offer tons of recommendations. While it would seem that the information viewers receive should be used at their own risks, legally, social media influencers can be held responsible if a viewer follows their advice or suggestion and suffers a loss as a result, such as an injury or financial loss.

A part of this legal guard means that the viewer can sue the influencer for their loss. Liability insurance serves as a shield against your finances. In the event you found yourself in this scenario, the individual will essentially file a claim against the insurance policy rather than your personal finances.

Equipment Protection

Since you take the quality of your content seriously, you probably have a range of high-cost equipment such as computers and expensive cameras. If you store these items in your home, even if you have homeowner's insurance, because this equipment is used for commercial purposes, keep in mind that your homeowners or renter's insurance will not provide you with protection.

Instead, you need business insurance with commercial property protection. In the event of a fire, water damage, or even theft, commercial property insurance would provide a way for you to have your equipment repaired or replaced so that you can continue with your business.

Workers' Compensation

If your social media business endeavors have required you to expand to the point where you need assistance, you should consider worker's compensation insurance. When you have an employee, it is helpful to understand that you bear some responsibility for their well-being when they are performing work on your behalf.

For example, if your assistant was to get into a car accident while picking up items from a brand partner for you to review, they could seek workers compensation for the period in which they are unable to work while they recover from their injuries. Workers' compensation keeps these expenses from coming out of your pocket.

If you earn a living on social media, make sure you are protected. Speak with an insurance professional so that you can learn more about protecting your vlogging or blogging business.
